Laura Silsby is a U.S. missionary who was accused and convicted of attempted kidnapping in Haiti.
After the January 12 earthquake in Haiti, Laura Silsby attempted to transport 33 Haitian children out of Haiti. These Haitian children were not orphans AND Laura Silsby did not have proper documentation.
US Marines In Haiti

Director General Haitian National Police Chief Leon Charles is reorganizing local police stations while working with U.S. Marines deploying to Haiti at the request of the new President of Haiti to help promote the constitutional political process, to create conditions for the arrival of the U.N. multinational force, facilitate humanitarian assistance and secure key sites in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince.
